Excursions > Post-excursion 1: The Belgian classics of the Upper PalaeozoicPost-congress excursion 1The Belgian classics of the Upper Palaeozoic This three-day field trip will be dedicated to the classical succession of the Namur–Dinant Basin of South Belgium where the Middle Devonian and Carboniferous rocks display a large range of siliciclastic and carbonate facies. The Namur–Dinant Basin is also a classical area for the study of the Palaeozoic geology and palaeontology as several stages (Givetian, Frasnian, Famennian, Tournaisian, Viséan), which are recognized by the International Union of Geological Sciences, were originally defined there. Classical localities such as Dinant, Couvin and Namur will also be visited. Schedule: Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July 2023

Weather requirements: Weather is usually nice and warm in Belgium in July, temperatures can attain 30 °C or more, rain possible. All localities are of quite easy access, but attendees must be equipped with trekking shoes in order to walk over small distances in the field. Long trousers are compulsory in active quarry. |
